To break the Susan-only in the Artist Watch Series, meet Lin Schorr, aka Linlee8. Also a Flickr Gal and fellow Moniac 
while I perused her mosaics my breath was quite literally taken away… Lin also belongs to the Stained Glass & Mosaics Forum over at the Garden Web, and asked me to make special mention of the fantastic support going on there. As Lin mentioned “there’s simply no holding back of learned techniques or sharing of their favorite suppliers…and they’re funny too”. Sounds like I need to head on over and meet some new people 
Lin resides in Michigan, USA and mosaics, specifically glass, began for her almost 3 years ago while wandering around St. Louis, MO during one of her husband’s business trips. Walking into St. Louis Union Station, she was immediately taken in by the architecture in particular the glow from the glass floor tiles. At that moment Lin had an epiphany as she was right in the midst of attempting to design a new bathroom… Aha… glass!
From that point on she was determined that glass it would be. As a newbie to any type of tiling there was alot of research and learning to be had and she didn’t allow any warnings about the sometimes painful process of using glass tile to dissuade her. There was simply no going back! In the end, Lin never did find it difficult, rather it was a very natural process for her, like she’d been using it forever. I must say that tradies, as we call tradesmen in Australia, warned me about glass tile as well and still to this day don’t know why. There must be a reason…
Lin is a Landscape Designer by trade – and I must say if her own garden is anything to go by she’s VERY good at it Last Spring, before the landscaping surge begun, she felt a need for a change and wanted to give this new glass “crush” some time to develop. Her first glass piece was made on a 1950 Dutch door that was hanging off her patio (a glass on glass project no less!). Always having been attracted to warm colors and flowers, the subject was a no brainer. Her second piece was the makeover of an armoire and number three, a Luna Moth another glass on glass piece. This piece was a study to see how patient she could be. Every piece of tessera seemed to get tinier and tinier…
Now Lin is totally hooked and hopes to one day, very soon, be able to add mosaics to her design business and eventually drop the landscaping altogether. I’d say she’s on her way to doing just that! Her work is simply astounding and seeing as she’s been actually making mosaics for less than a year, I’m down on my knees

I just love that Lin started big and wasn’t afraid to give it all a go! And look what she’s created… There’s a lesson in that, no?
